CA-125 test is used in order to diagnose cancer in a patient. It tests out the levels of CA-125, which stands for cancer antigen 125. This is a type of protein produced on the ovarian cells and released on large levels together with the increased number of cells.

The CA-125 test is an accurate test to use in terms of detecting cancer especially if the cancer stage is already on its second up to the latter stages. However, studies showed that this test is somehow not accurate in detecting early symptoms of ovarian cancer. Hence, it should be combined with other types of ovarian cancer tests like imaging and other tests. In addition, the CA-125 test are also needed to be verified since it can also show positive results even if the condition is not ovarian cancer.

Since this test is effective on higher cancer stages, wmen who are undergoing chemotherapy are regularly subjected on these tests to see if their condition is still in remission. This will verify if the amount of CA-125 has increased throughout this period and manage it accordingly with treatment.

CA-125 is a good test to diagnose symptoms of ovarian cancer. However, it’s important to note down that proper verification is needed especially if diagnosis is done on earlier symptoms to verify its results.
